Bergamot is known for its uplifting citrus scent and antiseptic properties. Now Bergamot has a role in managing healthy cholesterol and blood glucose levels.

Bergamot is the common name of the citrus bergamia risso plant. The fruit has a yellow skin and is the size of an orange. Although native to south-east Asia, 80% of the world’s bergamot is produced in Calabria, southern Italy where it grows extensively. If you’ve never heard of bergamot you’ve probably been exposed to it. The oil from the peel is used to flavor Earl Grey tea, it’s bergamot that imparts the unique fragrance of that popular brew. 50% of women’s perfumes also contain bergamot. Aromatherapists use bergamot oil to treat: Depression, Psoriasis, Cuts, burns and wounds.

Researchers over the past decade or more have turned their attention to other uses of bergamot, namely as a cholesterol-lowering ingredient.

According to the Mayo Clinic, your cholesterol is considered high when it totals  200 mg/dL or more. Your high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or “good” cholesterol, should be 60 mg/dL or above while your low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or “bad” cholesterol, should be below 100 mg/dL. 

When it comes to regulating your cholesterol, bergamot may be able to prevent plaque from building up in the arteries and causing blockages while also acting similar to statin medications, which inhibit the production of cholesterol by the liver. Some studies showed daily bergamot supplements lowered bad cholesterol, raised good cholesterol and helped regulate blood sugar levels, attribute these benefits to the abundant presence of flavonoids, or antioxidants, within the fruit.

Scientific Evidence for Bergamot

Italian researchers studied this extract in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 237 patients with high cholesterol. Some of
them also had features of the metabolic syndrome (high blood sugar, high triglycerides, and low HDL cholesterol). The subjects took either 500 mg or 1000 mg of bergamot extract per day, or placebo, for 30 days.

Impressive results for cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar. Those in the bergamot groups experienced significant average reductions in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, and a significant increase in HDL cholesterol compared to those in the placebo group. The 59 subjects with metabolic syndrome also experienced a significant decrease in their triglycerides. In that group, total cholesterol dropped from 278 to 199mg/ml, LDL dropped from 188 to 126mg/ml, and triglycerides dropped from 267 to 158 mg/ml. Not only that, but HDL increased in all patients as well, up to a striking 64.6%.

It also reduced blood sugar levels by an average of 15%–25% and is therefore of potential benefit in those with pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Overall, there was not much difference in the 500 mg dose compared to the 1000 mg dose for any of the measured parameters except HDL, which increased significantly more in the group taking the higher, 1000 mg per day dose.


Is bergamot becoming an alternative to statin drugs?

In this same Italian study, there was a 4th group who had  stopped taking their statin medications (cholesterol-lowering drugs) because of muscle pain and other side effects. They were given 1500 mg per day. This group showed a 25% reduction in total cholesterol and a 27.5% reduction in LDL (bad cholesterol) levels. No negative side effects were reported.

Can I Just Drink or Eat the Fruit?

The fruit is not palatable, as the flavor resembles that of a very bitter and sour grapefruit. Nevertheless, bergamot juice and bergamot extract are highly concentrated with inflammation-fighting flavonoids and antioxidants that have incredible therapeutic effects on the body. Therefore, bergamot capsules and tablets are available to provide a more tolerable way to swallow the recommended dosages.

Dosage

There are 60 capsules per bottle. You should take no less than 4 in the first month, 2 in the afternoon and 2 in the evening before your meals. Then you can stay on 4, or reduce to 3-2 per day depending upon your blood profile and lifestyle. Ideally you will use Bergamonte for 3 months and then have your blood tested again. Once your blood work is in a healthy range, you may take as little as 2 per day as a maintenance dosage. The 500 mg dosage is provided to give you this flexibility.

More Ways to Support Healthy Cholesterol

There are multiple steps you should take to get your cholesterol into the desired range and keep it there. Start with these:

Avoid trans and saturated fats as well as processed foods.

Quit smoking.

Eat a balanced diet rich in vitamins, protein, fiber, minerals and essential fatty acids.

Cut down or give up the soda.

Exercise for at least 30 minutes five days a week to get your weight to a healthy number.

My Thoughts

This is a great natural way to help manage healthy cholesterol. My doctor did not want to put me on medication at such a young age, so he recommended I exercise and watch what I eat. Being that my cholesterol had been high for the last 5 years I was concerned about not treating it. I went online searching for a good supplement. I saw an article saying bergamot is good for reducing cholesterol and started taking it about a year ago. My cholesterol was running about 220 before I started taking this type of supplement. After about 3 months, I dropped 30 points on my total cholesterol! This was also in combination with changing a few dietary foods and exercising. Recently I was given Bergamonte by Nutri LifeScience to review. My old brand were large hard pills, they worked just fine but I prefer these softgels by Nutri Lifescience. They go down easier and break down much faster in the stomach. I'm also switching since these are cheaper and have the same amount of Bergamonte. This is proof to me that with diet and exercise and the help of something natural like this, that you might not just have to start taking some medications. I take two of these soft gel capsules everyday before lunch and dinner. I have had no side effects at all from them that I am aware of. I have no idea how much or if at all this brand is helping compared to my old one, but I will continue taking it. I'll be checking my cholesterol in the next few months and hope to see a drop of several points from this brand as well. This supplement may help bring down cholesterol numbers, but you have to do your part as well. At least exercise a little and cut out fried foods. If you do your part I think it will work well for you. These types of supplements are proof to me that with diet and exercise and the help of something natural like this, that you might not just have to start taking some medications.

My review:
This is a well made good quality bath mat. It has met my expectations. The mat is a bit longer compared to regular mats I see most often.  It does leave a couple inches in my tub that isn't covered but I don't have a problem with that. To get all the little suctions down well you have to press them individually. It didn't take long at all and I haven't had a problem with them coming undone when using the mat. It gives a good cushion. The suction is extremely sturdy and the surface of the mat is stable even with soap on it. It also seems to dry fairly quickly. Overall I think it's a good buy.

My thoughts:
My mom  began having problems with Sleep Apnea in her late 40's. My review:
I was very happy to receive this alarm clock since my previous one was on it's last legs. It had become a major endeavor to change the time, which always ended with me slapping and banging on it. So the idea of having an alarm that actually works was quite appealing. This is a nice all around basic alarm clock. It's good for someone that wants a dependable, minimalist, and easy to use alarm clock that doesn't take up a lot of space. The alarm clock is well designed and has all the features a person would want in a daily use alarm clock. The clock features a large screen display with a nice red on black LED display making it easy to read from anywhere in the room. The simple adjustable dimmer enables you to set the display to a brighter setting in daytime and softer one at night. You can also set up to two alarms, I think this is a great feature, many families run on different schedules, with one person getting up at lets say 5AM, and another at 9AM. This clock by DreamSky can handle this. The alarms are easy to disable if you decide to sleep in. All you have to do is press any button other than snooze to disable the alarm. Once pressed the alarm will reset until the next day. The clock has a built in digital Am/FM radio that includes memory for up to 20 preset stations. AM/FM radio is easy to tune and the speaker quality is acceptable. On the bottom of the clock is a backup battery compartment that holds 2 AAA batteries that is used to store the alarm settings in the event of a power outage. I wanted to see what would happen to the clock when the power was cut off, either from a power outage or storm. I unplugged the clock and waited half an hour and plugged it back in. The clock immediately reset itself to the correct time and date, and all of my settings were saved. So that feature does work. All in all, the DreamSky alarm clock radio is a decent well made alarm clock with helpful features.

My thoughts
My dog Midnight's overall health is good, but lately he was moving slower and occasionally suffering from stiffness. As indicated, K9 Pro suggests to take a 1/2 of the tablet daily according to my dogs weight for the first 4-6 weeks. After two weeks of giving our dog this supplement he is much more playful. He is running in the yard like a young dog and getting up the stairs quicker. Since they are beef flavored convincing him to eat them is not a problem at all. The tablets can also easily be either broken in half, or cut in half if needed. Although my Akita Kobe does not have mobility issues, I am giving it to him as well as a preventative measure. I really can't say too much about the effectiveness of these pills yet although they definitely seem to be helping him. It may have been a coincidence, but I'm keeping him on this product. So far I believe it does what it says. We'll give an update after he has been on K9 Pro Glucosamine Joint Supplements for a longer period of time. For now, our experience has been  positive.

My review:

I'm getting older and like everything else on a woman's body gravity is starting to take it's toll and my butt is starting to sag a bit. These padded panties are exactly what I needed it. They definitely do what they say. The panties are lightweight and comfy. They look very natural and make clothes look so much more flattering. It's very subtle, as the pads are not too thick. they have just the right amount of padding to make your butt look fuller and rounder without looking fake. While they are very body hugging and cling against me, they do not make me feel like I am restrained or make it hard to move when wearing them. Keep in mind that it will not give you that round perfect butt like a workout will give you, just make it look a little bigger than it is. The only thing is it doesn't feel real if any ladies wear this on a date and the guy happens to touch it, he'll know it's fake. All in all, I recommend these for any one who wants a little extra with out going to extreme or having it look fake.

Place your index finger onto the glass electrode. Do not remove your finger until the electrode is in contact with your skin. Removing your finger too early creates an uncomfortable spark effect on the skin.

Glide the electrode over the face in a circular motion. Maintain continual contact, not pulling away more than ¼ inch. Start with the forehead, then move to the nose, cheeks and chin.

Place a finger on the electrode when finished before pulling the electrode off the face.

(There will be a sharp smell created by ozone that is normal and is not a sign of a problem.)

Turn the knob to the off position.
Clean the electrode with a solution of soap and water — do not immerse the electrode in water or get the metal end wet.

I've had this for a few weeks now and I must say I love it! This is a great way to improve and boost your appearance without breaking the bank or undergoing the knife. My review:
I recently received a very nice natural deodorant from InstaNatural. InstNatural makes all natural, organic products using only the best plant-based essential oils and extracts. Most deodorants contain Aluminum salts to prevent sweating by causing skin cells to swell and sweat glands to close. Aluminum has been linked to a variety of different health issues including but not  limited to: seizures, cancers, and kidney problems. Phthalates are used in deodorants for fragrance but these are linked to childhood development issues as well as an increased risk of allergies. Parabens are used in deodorants for preservation reasons however they are linked to causing problems with parts of your body’s endocrine system. I've been slowly transitioning over to more natural products. Face wash, shampoo, soap, skin care products, even toothpaste, but not deodorant. My deodorant has to work well, especially during warm weather so I was a bit skeptical about using this product. This is a deodorant only; not an anti-antiperspirant. However the chosen ingredients do have natural properties to help keep bacteria from sweating in check. So with that being said it doesn't prevent sweating but it does do wonders for preventing odor. It has just the right amount of essential oils for a fresh scent that won’t overpower. Its scent does not bother my allergies, and its ingredients do not make my skin itch or have any other allergic reactions. The use of only natural ingredients reduces the probability of suffering from diseases caused by toxic chemicals and limits the likelihood of experiencing contact dermatitis caused by irritants and allergens. Since transitioning to natural deodorant, my underarms are feeling fresh and odor-free even without deodorant. Overall this is a great aluminum-free deodorant that works without hazardous chemicals and fragrances.

My review:

Nice looking sweater. It's a little different than what I'm used to, but I'm always on the lookout for new pieces to add to my wardrobe and was really intrigued when I saw this. The sweater seems to be well made, with sturdy stitching and hems. The sweater fits well and drapes just perfectly.The fabric is comfortable and adds some nice warmth in the fall or a chilly spring evening, without overheating. Very versatile, easy to dress up or down. All in all, I am pleased with this sweater, I expect to get a lot of use from it.
